Marine Cargo Claims Procedures

What to do if you have a marine cargo claim …

1. In the event of loss of or damage to your marine cargo, you should

  • Immediately notify the loss / damage to the Survey Agent or Settling Agent named in the Policy Schedule or us;
  • File a claim in writing to the carriers, forwarders, bailees or other concerned parties for any missing or damaged packages within the time limit mentioned in the shipping document, in general, 3 days for sea cargo and 14 days for air cargo;
  • Take reasonable measures to avert or minimize further loss to the remaining cargo;
  • Take proper care of the damaged cargo and keep any salvage.


2. Please submit the following documents to us:

  • Duly completed original Claim Report Form;
  • Original policy or certificate of insurance;
  • Shipping invoices and packing list;
  • Original bills of lading and / or other contract of carriage;
  • Survey report or other documentary evidence to show the extent of the loss or damage (e.g. Exception list and Damage report);
  • Copy of correspondence exchange with the carriers and other parties regarding their liability for the loss or damage;
  • Colour photographs;
  • Loading account and weight notes at the final destination, in the case of missing cargo.
